Welcome to our page!

We moved to Praia do Almoxarife on Faial on June 28th 2020. This is one of the islands of the Azores. Our dream was to live with a view of Pico Island, which is at about 7 km distance, and it came true! Most of the time we can also see São Jorge Island at 33 km distance and with clear view also Graciosa Island at 73 km distance. You have to wait for the exact view, but with clear wheather there's a live view from the city of Horta near us, visible via the tab Webcams.

Pico owes the name to the highest mountain (2351m) of Portugal which is on this island and has a thousand faces, determined by the weather and the time of the day, see here.

The Azores is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands in the Northern half of the Atlantic and is an autonomous region of Portugal. The climate of the Azores is subtropical, in short: never really cold or very warm. It regularly rains which is good for the exuberant vegetation.

Why "Cachalote"? This is Portuguese for sperm whale; In addition to the many whale species that migrate through this area during the year, there are groups of dolphins and sperm whales that reside here permanently. For us, the sperm whale is a symbol for this area. And in English it sounds like "Cash a lot" 😉, promising isnt it?
